  2. Continuous Pull / Continuous Tension — the sustained force for an entire pull. This is the figure that governs real, long-section work.
  3. Stringing Speed — how fast the machine can run, which directly affects your daily section progress.
  4. Bull-Wheel Diameter — the larger the wheel, the gentler the bend radius imposed on the conductor.
  5. Groove Number — the number of conductor/rope grooves on the bull wheel, which determines how the rope wraps and grips.
  6. Max Rope / Conductor Diameter — the largest rope or conductor the machine can accept; too small and your conductor simply will not fit.
  7. Engine / Hydraulic Configuration — engine power and the hydraulic system that drives the bull wheel, which together determine duty cycle and reliability.

A Real-World Example

Take a 90 kN class hydraulic puller. Its published specification sheet typically reads something like:

How to Use the Checklist

Collect the seven values from every candidate machine and lay them side by side against your project requirements. The correct machine is the one whose continuous ratings and max rope/conductor diameter comfortably exceed your project needs, with the bull-wheel diameter and groove count suited to your conductor type. Tick all seven boxes before you commit — it is far cheaper than discovering a limit on site.

It is also worth asking how each figure was measured, since intermittent and continuous ratings can look similar on a brochure but behave very differently in the field. A machine that quotes an impressive peak pull but a modest continuous pull may be perfectly adequate for short distribution pulls yet unsuitable for a long EHV section. The same caution applies to speed: a headline figure achieved on flat ground will be lower on a steep route. Treat every published number as a starting point and confirm, in writing, the configuration that will be supplied.
